(Honolulu, HI) The Hawaiʻi State Board of Education (BOE) selection committee has chosen Kaiser High School senior Ethan Yang to serve as the 2024-2025 BOE student representative. Yang is an incoming senior at Kaiser High School, recently completing his service as student council vice president and school representative to the Hawaiʻi State Student Council. He held various leadership positions in an assortment of extracurricular activities including National Honor Society, Mock Trial, and Science Bowl, and was involved in various projects including the first complex-wide service event. As an athlete, Ethan has played competitive club soccer for more than a decade, captained the varsity soccer team, and drafted to the OIA East first team twice. He received the Harvard Book Award and was a national finalist in the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest.

“It's an incredibly unique, humbling, and inspiring opportunity to represent Hawaiʻi's public school students on the Board of Education” said Ethan Yang. “I will work tirelessly to advocate for accessible opportunities that can unleash the unlimited potential and distinct passions that are within us all.”

Each year, a public high school student is selected by the Hawaiʻi State Student Council and the Hawaiʻi State Board of Education to serve as the student representative. This student plays a critical role in ensuring that student perspectives are considered in board decisions, requiring a comprehensive understanding of student issues and concerns.

Yang will succeed Ahryanna McGuirk who will graduate from Kālaheo High School this month.
